Stop Motion 3D Object Animation - Week 4

Introduction

The purpose of this workshop was to develop skills in stop motion using object that exist in a 3D world. The most difficult thing to achieve is a realist sense of speed.

The Trap

This video demonstrates animism in that inanimate objects have been given life. I do not think this is true anthropomorphism because these objects are generally acting like insects rather than people although having said this tying rope and the cheer at the end are both quite human. This animation shows little kinesthesis identified through a sensation of mussel strain or over extend. With more skill this could be achieved.

Animation Sound Track

Making the sound track for animation first requires a good source of sound effects and production music. For the project The Trap I did not use music only sound effects which I already own. It is import that the sound and image a synchonized and to do this I used a Mac program called LogicPro.

Below is a screen shot of how I made the sound track.

You can see that the torch motor used two tracks, I for the motor sound an another for the thumb on the table as the arm came about. It is good idea to label your sound tracks clearly and to put different sound on different track rather than try and combine them onto a single. Another thing I like to do is to put the tracks in the order when the sound first appears in the narrative.

Come Boy

This second video was intended to demonstrate depth of field. You can see how a very shallow depth of field can be used to focus attention onto a single character.
